Petition to outlaw the farrowing crate immediately
We, the undersigned, want to express our strong concern about the use of the farrowing crate for nursing pigs. Current legislation still allows the use of this cage in which sows are imprisoned for 28 days when giving birth. Unable to walk, turn or fulfil their powerful maternal instincts, sows suffer stress, pain and psychological torture in the crate. Many piglets will die from heat loss and starvation. Even though alternative systems exist, hundreds of thousands of British pigs are still forced to endure this barbaric treatment more than twice a year, every year. I demand that the Government outlaws the farrowing crate immediately.
